The main building consists of a modest complex of two beautiful pole-construction, timber Queenslander-style buildings. A separate open kitchen and dining gazebo sits between the two ‘houses’, overlooking our 7x14 meter in-ground infinity swimming pool. The entire complex looks down to the beach and natural boat harbour, where our speedboats await at floating pontoons just offshore.
Guestroom Specifications:
The South House sports color-bond roofing with insulated and cladded walls, plus large eaves offering undercover wraparound timber verandahs along the top floor. Guests enjoy a soothing sea breeze and outstanding 270 degree ocean views. On the top floor of both homes is a large chill-out lounge area with large flatscreen TV. High ceilings, fans and many louvers maximize the natural cooling effect. Each house features eight air-conditioned bedrooms on the top floor, two of which have en suite bathrooms. All bedrooms are interchangeable to suit varying needs – they can be fitted out as family rooms, twin-share kids’ rooms or very private couples hideaways. Each bedroom has a set of louvers and French doors leading out to your own section of verandah. Paradise!
The lower levels of the South House is an open plan and at the same elevation as the garden and pool. The south house has storage rooms for bags and boards, a small gymnasium and entertainment area.

Below the future north house is our main office area, with library/chill-out area, massage tables, kitchen stores, etc. The boatshed houses all our marine toys, and is right on the beach facing our harbour. Staff quarters extend behind this building.
The power building is located 50m behind the main complex and built behind double-skinned brick walls to minimize generator noise. We are starting with diesel generators, but have a greener future in the works. Plans call for switching to solar panels and wind generators both powering invertors which in turn charge up large battery banks All power and electrical systems on the island have been designed and installed by a fully qualified Australian electrician.
For comfort’s sake, we endeavour to make our small island as much like home as possible. Captured rainwater and well water are run through reverse-osmosis filtering systems. All taps and showers flow with fresh, potable water. Our wastewater system is environmentally friendly, utilizing aeration tanks that run off into hydrophilic gardens behind the resort complex. All are designed and fitted by an Australian registered plumber. The fact that we are on our own island also enables us to take steps to reduce the risk of malaria and other mosquito-borne illnesses.

Resort Latitude Zero owns and operates a fleet of boats to service all guest and resort needs. Our main vessel is the well-known surf charter boat Nomad, along with a number of speedboats and our small cargo vessel Anugrah.
Offshore tripping aboard Nomad
Nomad, a traditional Phinisi surf charter craft, offers something utterly different to our guests. Imagine a combo holiday package where you can surf breaks near the resort, then take off for explorations along the island chains to the north and south of Telo. We always post two captains aboard Nomad, to share the workload and as a safety precaution. Click
here for more info about holiday options on the Nomad.
Zero – 1 is a 7.3 meter aluminium-plate construction speedboat. Amenities include full-shade canopy with side steering console, leaving plenty of room for boards, bags, etc.
Anugrah is our 15m island cargo trader vessel – timber construction with 100hp Mitsubishi diesel engine. Her maximum load capacity is around 12 tonnes. She serves as our behind-the-scenes logistics vessel, running provisions and materials for the resort.

The local climate is considered tropical, hot, and humid with a temperature range between 70 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 - 32 degrees Celsius.
The water temperature is always around 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius) no matter what time of year you visit.
The local landscape is dense, tropical forest with four main islands and dozens of auxiliary islands - sprinkled with a few main coastal villages throughout.
The dry season in this area spans from February to September and the wet season typically occurs between October - January. At any time of the year however expect regular rainfall in short intervals - heavy at times.
Local winds surrounding the resort are variable throughout most of the year but occasionally go through intermittent periods of storminess, called "Badai's". Kandui lies exactly 1 degree below the Equator and as a result is not influenced by the steady easterly trade winds often associated with the rest of Indonesia - that's what makes this area so unique!

The Telo Islands, also known as the Batu Islands, consist of three large main islands and some 48 smaller islets. Located on the equator (at latitude zero degrees, hence our name), the Telos are situated between Pulau Nias and the Mentawai Islands. This places them strategically in the center of an archipelago stretching along the west coast of Sumatra, an area, which over the last decade, has become one of the great surfing meccas of the world.
Our boutique resort is set within a natural coconut garden on its own paradise island (a cliché perhaps, but there’s really no other word for it). The beautiful sandy beach around the headland where the resort sits is lapped by clear, calm, aqua-toned waters with no offshore fringing reef, making it perfect for boat access, swimming and relaxing. And it’s also safe for kids, too.
We employ nearby islanders to maintain the coconut gardens, and revenue generated from this is injected back into the local island community through various projects.
